Community Work Program

Foothills provides Community Work programs

Community Work Program (Vocational Rehabilitation)

Vocational Rehabilitation is an independent agency of the state of North Carolina operated under the Department of Health and Human Services. The purpose of this agency is to work with individuals who have a disability which prevents their employment and to help persons overcome barriers to employment and find a job. VR sponsors trainees at Foothills Industries where they receive vocational evaluations and job training.

VR may provide a job coach through FI.  A job coach may help the person find a job and may actually go to the job and help with training and other problems the individual may have with employment.

The eligibility criterion for VR services is:

  • The consumer must have a disability which interferes with employment
  • There must be a reasonable expectation that a person will be able to work in competitive employment after a brief period of assistance.
  • The person must express and demonstrate a desire to go to work.
